Inspiring Kids To Be Ready For Fitness

Why are kids today more overweight than ever? If you look at generations past, kids didn’t suffer from the extra pounds that kids do now. There are several different things that have contributed to the steady weight gain and decreased fitness of this age group.
One of those things is diet. Children today have many more fast food choices, ready to eat foods, and processed snacks. With more single parenting or both parents working, youth are many times left on their own for many meals so they get what is convenient. We should realize that quick doesn’t mean healthy!
Next there is technology. Never before have there been so many electronic devices taking up our time. Kids have game systems, MP3 players, online games, and of course there is the TV! All of these devices are so fascinating to kids, why would they ever want to play physical games?
Children today don’t get out in the fresh air and rough house and play like they used to. We are so scheduled that we can’t find a spare minute to go to the park and shoot some hoops or ride a bike. In addition to that, it seems many schools are doing away with fitness programs because of budget cuts.
We should be working on teaching this generation the basics about good eating habits and fitness if we want to shield them from the health risks of obesity. Children these days shouldn’t overweight, they should be taught good habits!
